REPS

At The Repertory Players’ Annual General Meeting on Sunday April 11, new members and office bearers were elected onto the Executive Committee. Each has his or her portfolio and will be looking at ways and means of enhancing the already successful status, standing and operations of Reps. Please give them all your support and encouragement, as well as your ideas and suggestions.

Stan Higgins – Chairman and Chairman, Marketing and Publicity

Sue Bolt – Vice Chairman and Chairman, Production

Tim Garrard – Chairman, Bar Management

Marc Thomas – Stage Director (in which capacity he chairs the Backstage Committee)

Ryan Lawrence – Chairman, Office and Property Management

Sue McMillan – Chairman, Finance

Mike Blackburn – Chairman, Technical Management

Kevin Hanssen – Chairman, Training and Development

Mike Southall – Chairman, Membership

In addition, Christine Sandford agreed to be co-opted onto Exco and to take on chairmanship of Social Events.

A strategic planning seminar is to be held soon, from which will flow a plan of action for the coming year. Key to deliberations will be planning on: (a) increasing patronage of the two theatres, (b) increasing revenue in the bars and from social events, and(c) identifying and tapping into additional areas of income generation. In doing this, there must be an accent on enjoyment and the continued pursuit of the theatrical excellence for which Reps has become known.

You may also wish to know that a new committee for Repteens was recently elected, made up of:

Kuzivakwashe Muvezwa – Chairman

Meredith Render – Vice Chairman

Peter Blackburn, Tristan Charnley and Fraser Flight – committee members

Kyla Render remains the co-ordinator of Repteens.

Reps, with its many different facets and features, is a great society made up of many talented and hardworking people, with an amazing tradition dating back 80 years and it is the new committee’s objective to make it even greater and to ensure financial strength.

Thank you
STAN HIGGINS

KEEGAN LANGLEY

FAREWELL KEEGAN LANGLEY Keeg's is Flying Well after a journey after two years and an endless fight all day long, Keegs finally left us at 4:10 this afternoon. The last hour was the toughest, but it was a privilege and a special feeling for us all to be there for his last breath. So the legend has been laid to rest, and he is now flying in a massive stoop, cutting the air with his primaries and vocalising with the exhilaration. How great it will be to walk, talk and be pain free. My thanks for everyone, the journey is full circle. Keegs was on loan to us for 2 years and 5 days. What a journey - no breaks, no easy ride..... He has been cast from the glove, and now flies free, no longer at hack. Total peace and release. Fly free Keegie boy, Sal, Ade, Drew and Bryn

From Birdlife Zimbabwe

Those of you who were birding a long time ago in the 80’s and 90’s will remember Monica with great fondness. She was a great birder and supporter of BLZ. A delightful and lovely lady, who took us beginner birders under her wing, as Dave Dalziel reminds us, and lured some of us onto the Committee!

The Celebration of Life of Monica Fiorini will be held at Dandaro Community Centre at 10am on Wednesday the 20th April, 2011. She will be buried at Glen Forest Cemetery at 2pm the same day for those who wish to attend.

From: Naomi Chudy [mailto:nchudy@zol.co.zw] MONICA MAUD FIORINI - died peacefully at home on Tuesday 12th April, 2011. She will be missed by her sons Peter and Michael and all who knew her. Funeral arrangements will be publicised once they have been finalised.

Rosa York

The York, Birchall, Smith and Leanders families mourn the passing of a grand old lady, Rosa York, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother . While we respect the need for her to shed her weary body, her wise counsel, wily wit and sparkle that kept us laughing all her days, will be sorely missed.

+++++++

The funeral service for Rosa Elizabeth York will be held at the Church of

Ascension in Leander Avenue, Hillside at 2.30 on Thursday 14 April 2011.

Friends kindly accept this intimation.

Granny Rosa has died.

On Friday morning, in Bulawayo a legend passed away.

Rosa Elizabeth York (nee Rosenfels) was born on Lydeard Farm, Marula on 10th October 1923, the first born of nine children to pioneer Sigmund Julius Rosenfels (born in the Bulawayo lager in 1896) and 1909 settler Evelyn Lois Rosenfels (nee Shone).

Rosa married well known Matabeleland cattle rancher Eric Rupert York - twice winner of the coveted "Thousand Guinea Gold Trophy". They were married for 38 years and brought 5 children into the wonderful farming world at Marula and Figtree in Southern Matabeleland.

Rosa was an extremely talented needlewoman with a special talent in

embroidery, she described herself as ' painting with a needle'.

Rosa was chairlady, committee member, and member of the Home Industries

Section of the Bulawayo Agricultural Society for many years.

The Rosenfels / York / Mann / Birchall / Smythe / Viljoen / Smith / Shone / Greeff families formed an entire community on the edge of the fertile

Matopos Hills where the community once stretched into many dozens of

parents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Farewell to Rosa - sadly the end of an era but surely the beginning of a new one.

founders of human civilization." --Daniel Webster

For those of you who have not heard, Mike Campbell passed away yesterday. Mike and his family were featured in the film 'Mugabe and the White African'. He never fully recovered from the injuries he sustained from the beating he received from Mugabe's thugs upon his return from the SADC Tribunal. Our thoughts go out to the family.

MIKE CAMPBELL - Mt Carmel Farm, Chegutu

The JAG Team with deep regret bids farewell to an outstanding and principled

member of our beleaguered farming community. Mike was at the very forefront

of the battle for Justice in Zimbabwe and was a courageous example of fine

leadership and achievement to us all.

He has left behind a lasting legacy for all Zimbabweans in the form of his

benchmark judgment achieved out of the SADC Tribunal, which will in time

benefit all Zimbabweans, not just farmers.

The JAG Team wishes to express its sincere condolences to the Campbell and

Freeth families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this tragic

time.

Mike we know has gone to meet his Maker with all his principles intact and

his head held high. Rest in Eternal Peace, Mike.

"No greater sacrifice can a man make than to lay down his life for his

friends."
